In Chaintré, at the heart of the Mâconnais, the Mathias family has run its estate for six generations, a story rooted in place and terroir.
It begins in 1894, when Antoine Charvet, winegrower and carpenter, earned a diploma for his white wine harvested in Chaintré. His daughter Marie-Madeleine carried on the vines, and her son Jean-Marie later sold his wine by the cask to the cafés of Lyon. In 1958, Jean and Claudius Mathias began bottling their wine themselves, founding the Domaine Mathias as it stands today. Since 1992 Gilles Mathias and Béatrice Prost have run the estate, joined in 2016 by their son Thibault.
Organic farming began in 2010, and the wines have been certified since the 2013 vintage. The wines of Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly-Vinzelles and Mâcon-Chaintré are known as true expressions of the Mâconnais, carefully crafted and estate-bottled.
At Sélection Boudras, we value this blend of tradition and precision, this sense of terroir that lets every wine tell the story of its place.
