Santenay 1er Cru “Passetemps” in the 2024 Vintage

At the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, where the Côte-d'Or meets the Saône-et-Loire, Santenay closes the great chain of Burgundy slopes. Recognised in 1937, the appellation gives mostly reds from Pinot Noir, honest and well built, and counts several Premier Cru climats. “Passetemps” is one of them: a Premier Cru uniting the southern character of the Côte de Beaune with freshness and structure.

Château de la Charrière

Château de la Charrière is the Girardin family's estate in Santenay, at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, a winegrowing family for 13 generations.

In the 1960s the family holding grew and the Château de la Charrière joined it. In 1981 Yves Girardin took over three hectares; in 2003 he acquired the château and built a new winery. Benoît Girardin has worked at the estate since 2011.

Château de la Charrière now covers 21.5 hectares, in Santenay as well as Chassagne-Montrachet and Pommard: a family estate where know-how is handed down from one generation to the next.
