Margaux, vintage 2022

On the left bank of the Gironde, Margaux has built a reputation for elegance: red wines of remarkable finesse, led by cabernet sauvignon, which accounts for around 60% of the vineyard area. The appellation spans the communes of Margaux-Cantenac, Arsac, Labarde and Soussans, set on low gravel rises whose limestone subsoil lies beneath a layer of gravel. The parcels sit on the Marsac plateau, overlooking the Gironde which tempers the climate, on deep quaternary gravel soils.

The vintage blend combines 56% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 4% petit verdot, hand-harvested and fermented in concrete vats before ageing in new French oak barrels. The colour is deep purple; the nose is ripe and profound, with aromas of dark fruit, liquorice, fresh mint and spice. The palate is full, round and fleshy, closing on a fruity finish built on a tannic structure of rare elegance.

Food pairing

Lamb, beef fillet, fine poultry, mild cheeses.

Copel Wines

Xavier Copel, born in Cahors and trained as an oenologist in Toulouse, founded his négociant house in Bordeaux in 1992, based in Pondaurat. Each cuvée tells the story of a terroir.

After vinifying in Cahors and at Domaine de Chevalier (Cru Classé de Pessac-Léognan), he built a micro-négoce and consulting practice at the heart of the terroirs of Bordeaux, southwestern France and Spain, forging close ties with notable winegrowers. In 2016, this gave rise to the “Copel” range, conceived as a haute-couture approach to parcel-by-parcel vinification.

His philosophy: a single partner winegrower per appellation, working the same well-exposed old parcel year after year. Grapes for the Pauillac, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and Pomerol wines are harvested by hand.

At Sélection Boudras, we value this precision, which lets each place speak in its own voice.
