Copel Wines

Copel Wines

Xavier Copel is the enfant terrible of Bordeaux. An oenologist and cooper, he wants to revolutionize the Bordeaux system.
While the négociant-éleveur model is established in Burgundy, it was long considered impossible in Bordeaux. An extraordinary winemaker has broken through this system and now produces wines of Grand Cru Classé level at remarkably fair prices, from top sites next to Cheval Blanc, Yquem, and Pétrus – with excellent critical reviews and great recognition in Europe's leading restaurants and wine shops.

COPEL WINES

Here we present a part of the collection signed by Xavier Copel. As a consulting oenologist, he creates a series of mini-cuvées within various wineries – in Bordeaux and beyond – from carefully selected plots, which he vinifies and ages on site. This interesting collection precisely expresses the respective terroirs. The wines are always aged with great care, without stylistic showmanship.

The Wines:

Two Médoc cuvées were tasted, including a beautiful 2021 Saint-Estèphe, quite firm and dense, juicy and with fine tannins. Also noteworthy is an excellent Pomerol, profound, powerful and characterful, and above all, the great Sauternes "Hommage à Antoine Copel", whose masterful balance and concentration deserve the highest praise. Finally, Xavier Copel knows the terroir of Cahors perfectly and produces a wine there that impresses with its particular elegance, great finesse and silky tannins.

Origin, Philosophy, and Aspiration

Copel Wines works closely with independent winemakers who produce in a natural, sustainable, and terroir-focused manner. The selection is not based on volume, but on substance – small productions, traditional vineyard work, and a respectful approach to nature form the foundation. The goal is to present wines that are more than just a product: they are ambassadors of their region, their soils, and the people who created them.
