East of Saint-Émilion, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux produces red wines of character, sometimes close in style to its prestigious neighbour. The limestone plateau and clay-limestone soils, similar to those of Saint-Émilion, shape wines dominated by merlot, complemented by cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Recognised as an AOC in 1989 under the name Côtes de Castillon, the appellation took its current name in 2009.
This wine is made from 70% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Traditional vinification with sorting table and a three- to four-week temperature-controlled maceration yields a balanced, round and full-bodied wine, with structured, fruity tannins. Presented as a very good wine for cellaring, it pairs well with charcuterie, meats and cheese.

Château La Rode stands on the hillsides of Castillon la Bataille, in Saint-Philippe-d'Aiguilhe, owned by the Faux family since 1963.
The estate covers 11.60 hectares at the highest point of the appellation, over 110 metres in altitude, in the continuation of the Saint-Émilion slopes. Passed down through three generations, it is now run by Christine Faux.
Farming was practised sustainably until 2008, before the estate converted to certified organic viticulture in 2012. The wine is classified under the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation.
