The limestone plateau and clay-limestone soils, similar to those of Saint-Émilion, shape wines dominated by merlot, complemented by cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Recognised as an AOC in 1989 under the name Côtes de Castillon, the appellation took its current name in 2009.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis 2014 vintage from Château La Rode is made from 70% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Traditional vinification with sorting table and a three- to four-week temperature-controlled maceration yields a balanced, round and full-bodied wine, with structured, fruity tannins. Presented as a very good wine for cellaring, it pairs well with charcuterie, meats and cheese.
